How to Factory Reset Your Verizon Fascinate Samsung Galaxy-S Phone
By popular demand, this is how you can factory reset your Samsung Fascinate Android phone from Verizon.
Warning Note: This factory reset will erase your contact information and phone apps permanently! Back up your personal data before attempting this. 1. Completely power down your phone by pressing the power button for 2 seconds and selecting Power Off.
2. Let it power off completely for 20 seconds.
3. While pressing the volume up and volume down button together, press the power button to turn on your phone.
4. Accidentally, you may go into download mode. See this link if you get stuck: http://www.ultratechy.com/stuck-on-downloading-do-not-turn-off-target-problem/
5. When successful, it will go in to Manual Mode (or Android System Recovery) and you will see the following menu:
- reboot system now
- apply sdcard:update.zip
- wipe data/factory reset
- wipe cache partition
6. Use the volume down button to highlight “wipe data/factory reset”.
7. Press the Home button to select wipe data/factory reset your phone.
8. At the warning message, press volume up to reset device or volume down to cancel.
9. After wipe is complete, press the Home button to reboot.
Other phone instructions can or will be different. Please search for your own method as necessary.

hey there i held the up and down button with the power button, then i got to the black and blue system recovery screen i went down to wipe data/factory reset then it loaded finished , then i rebooted and let it restart up and it still asked for a gmail username or email and password and thats what i was trying to get around of -___-

I’m surprised a factory reset didn’t solve that.. perhaps this so-called factory reset is not the right solution to bypass the locked screen. Can you also wipe the cache partition to see if that helps? Assuming you have the Fascinate or a Galaxy-S phone, have you tried the other method?

First clear cache settings for your phone after going to the black screen. Then wipe data/factory reset, but BE SURE TO REMOVE YOUR SD CARD
(I did anyway, I was stuck at the google account recovery screen by the way)
Then re-boot, it should get you past the log in screen and just have the swipe to go screen [no lock]
Is this method for samsung galaxy s 19000?? How long do i hold the volume up and down buttons for coz i cant seem to get it
My daughter had a locked screen and couldn’t get into to her Galaxy S GT-19000. I called our service provider and she said to do a factory reset . She said to hold the volume up button plus the home key plus the power button at the same time. Then when a screen comes up let go and select wipe data/factory reset. Then reboot. This worked perfectly and had no problems. Hope this helps.

after u press and release the power keep holding till the screen pop even though samsung apear still dont release till the screen pop … and by the way i cleared cashe and factory reset still wont pass the log screen

Contact your cell phone service provider and ask them how to activate your phone. They should be able to take care of it!
after endless hours of attempting to factory reset my samsung i5500 to bypass the gmail username screen, still no luck – the volume + end call combination does not seem to work

Whenever I hold the up and down volume with the power button, it just comes up with a little white square saying “FTM” in the middle, and I can’t do anything on this screen.

He was very good but had never actually used the system so he wasn’t sure of how long to hold the volume and power button. I kept trying and finally got it, then found your web answer to proceed and it worked perfectly.

So I’ve got my freinds phone and I’m trying to hard reset the device because they forgot their Gmail account and they have been locked out of the device but unfortunatly when I attempt to hard reset the device (i.e. Volume down + call + Select button + end call button) I get this Android Logo of a droid with a shovel stating it’s downloading, Is their anyway I can bypass this screen with like a code input or something or is their like a program I can install onto my sd card of which when I insert it into a Android Device it erases everything.

It works if you follow the instructions, just note the following steps
Remove Batt
Replace Batt
Press and hold “Volume Down”
Press and hold power
Release Power when you see Samsung Logo **DONT LET GO OF VOLUME DOWN YET **
Wait for menu
Then release Volume down button
Can confirm for HakrzLAWL, that it does work for padfone
